Baking would have to be one of my all time favourite relaxation pastimes. This morning I had my first attempt at Nonna's and Nanna's Cosa Dolce (in the Island slang they are pronounced Cosa Dusha). The literally translate to 'something sweet'. Nanna used to whip these up on a weekly basis and now Mum bakes them often, we always know the smell when we enter the house and unfortunately it is impossible to stop at one!
I have a dodgy mix master so perhaps they were not as light and fluffy as they should be, I know a workman should never blame his tools and I did feel bad whinging about it as I imagine Nanna must have made many a batch by hand - I don't know how she did it.
I would also have to say it is an almighty messy affair, however judging by the family's response, it was worth the effort!

My 2nd first -
A few years ago, I planted a small rose bush in the front garden, I receive a lot of feedback about it - the odd placement and how growing roses is old fashioned and a lot of work for little reward.
This year my David Austin's have earned their keep, with the first of six roses blooming. A beautiful bright red with a yellow centre. Cheap thrills for me, but they make me smile!
